04-02-2025 Aviko and Averis Sign Seed Potato Trade Agreement
Aviko, Europe’s largest producer of potato products in the out-of-home segment and one of the top five global market leaders, has signed a trade agreement for seed potatoes with Averis, a subsidiary of the potato starch company Royal Avebe, specializing in the development, multiplication, and trade of starch potato varieties. This agreement grants Aviko direct access to Averis' seed potatoes for its growers, enabling them to meet the increasing demand for resistant varieties.
Access to High Resistance Varieties
Averis possesses High Dry Matter (HDS) varieties, suitable for the production of flakes and granules at Aviko. These varieties have high resistances, making them widely applicable across different soil types. The demand for resistant varieties is increasing, and with this trade agreement, Aviko can better meet the needs of its growers.
The agreement ultimately provides more certainty and a broader range of varieties for Aviko's growers. These varieties are specifically suitable for HDS cultivation, with improved resistances during cultivation and higher yields in the factory.
Dick Zelhorst, Chief Agro & Supply Chain Officer at Aviko, stated: “Averis is a global specialist in breeding robust varieties with a broad spectrum of resistances. I am convinced that the new collaboration will bring us a lot, as the new varieties are an important link in achieving further sustainability and securing the cultivation of high dry matter potatoes. At the same time, it strengthens the foundation of Averis, which is in the interest of the development of the entire potato sector in the Netherlands. I am very much looking forward to a successful collaboration with the Averis team.”
“We are delighted to collaborate with Aviko and take this next step in the strategic development of Averis,” said Marleen de Rond, Managing Director Agro & Strategy at Avebe, under which Averis falls. “With this collaboration, we are taking an important step in the implementation of our Route 2030 strategy. We are bringing Averis' unique position to value, which benefits the approximately 2,000 members affiliated with Avebe.”
